WINERIES & HORTICULTURE

Flexible weather protection for seasonal operations.

Rain and direct sun can disrupt fruit receival, processing, packing, loading and other time-sensitive work.

AWS designs clear-span fabric canopy systems that create sheltered working space. A canopy can extend an existing building, cover an operational yard or stand alone over a key production area.

KEEP PRODUCTION MOVING

Harvest and peak production place extra pressure on space. A conventional enclosed facility can be costly, while internal columns may restrict machinery, vehicles and changing layouts.

An AWS canopy can provide shelter for:

  • Grape, fruit and produce receival
  • Crush pads and seasonal processing areas
  • Sorting, grading and packing operations
  • Loading, unloading and dispatch
  • Bins, packaging, equipment and mobile plant
  • Overflow and staging areas.
  • Cellar-door, hospitality and event spaces

Clear-span designs keep the area open as equipment, volumes and seasonal requirements change.

NATURAL LIGHT AND PRACTICAL OPTIONS

Translucent membranes allow natural daylight beneath the canopy while providing shelter from rain and direct sun, creating a brighter daytime working environment.

Open sides maintain easy access and airflow. Where greater protection is required, AWS can incorporate side curtains. Lighting, gutters, downpipes and drainage can also be integrated.

The canopy height, access points and structural layout can be developed around forklifts, trucks, processing equipment and existing buildings.

THREE CANOPY OPTIONS

Semi-Permanent Unsupported Canopy

A hydraulically operated canopy with no internal posts. It remains elevated for normal use and can be lowered when required for severe weather, maintenance or changing seasonal needs.

Permanent Unsupported Canopy

A permanent tensile-membrane roof supported from an engineered perimeter structure, leaving the covered working area free of internal columns.

Permanent Steel-Arched Canopy

A robust clear-span membrane roof supported by engineered steel arches, suited to larger production, storage and logistics areas requiring a permanent solution.

DESIGNED AROUND YOUR OPERATION

Each AWS canopy is developed around the required dimensions, operational clearances, vehicle movements, ground conditions, local climate, drainage, budget and applicable building requirements.

Led by AWS, the project team can coordinate structural engineering, geotechnical assessment, foundation design, membrane design and fabrication, civil works, specialist installation, health and safety, and local approval documentation.

AWS operates through a lean delivery model, assembling the specialists needed for each project. This helps direct more of the available budget into engineering, quality materials and construction.

Installation can be planned around harvest, production schedules and quieter operating periods to minimise disruption where practical.
